This is a fictional account
Of a long lost love
It tells the truth
Which makes it rough
  The words are thorny
When the pain is deep
   & it’s worse then that
When it’s your deepest need

   She mixed honey with fear
   She twisted hope to make me believe
   Pulling all the clouds in the sky
   It rained 40 days and nights
   And it cost everything

If you get close enough to see the tears
You better head for higher ground
I’d like to just close my eyes
Then to enter the slaughterhouse
    But I won’t stop
I’ll deliver the news
    Though they burn the messenger
I’d much rather have that
    Then this emptiness I’ve earned.
